1. Brainstorming Webs

Whenever we begin a lesson, we can begin with a brainstorming web. Brainstorming webs get students to think about the various aspects of the topic on hand. While a student is thinking of ideas for working on a new seminar topic, he or she can brainstorm and capture those ideas in the web. Brainstorming webs also trigger off an open-ended network of ideas and associative thinking for the student. This method can be used by teachers to help students think on their own before they start teaching. How is this done? The teacher starts with a blank sheet of paper or with the blackboard. She begins at the centre of the page/ blackboard and records one by one all the ideas from the class and displays them in a visual format on the page or blackboard. The web branches out as the main idea expands with more and more ideas flowing in. For example, the brainstorming web below drawn by the teacher as the students contributed their ideas on creative writing.
